5 Things to Know About Keswick | Know Your Community

Up until the late 1980’s, Keswick had been designated as a “cottage country” destination for those living in Toronto. Thanks to major development in later years, Keswick has broadened its reach and steadily grown its population, all while maintaining that sense of community culture it was originally known for, making it a very attractive option for home buyers and investors alike.

1.Keswick, by the numbers

  • Location: located in the south central Canadian province of Ontario and situated north of Toronto on Cook’s Bay, Keswick is part of the Town of Georgina, the northernmost municipality in the Regional Municipality of York

Keswick is Georgina’s largest commercial business area, with access to several unique attractions, dining experiences and shopping. Keswick offers residents several shopping areas within the community, with destinations like Georgina Mall and the recently-opened Keswick Marketplace providing residents with a range of retail options.

Residents of this community can also enjoy and partake in several local attractions. To name a few:

  • The Stephen Leacock Theatre – first opened in 1985, this 295-seat theatre delights its guests with a mix of local, national and international entertainment, with productions in musical theatre, comedy and traditional stage performances. Some notable past acts on this stage include Serena Ryder, Rita MacNeil and Jeff Healey. The theatre also offers summer camps for kids that run from July to August each summer. 4. Georgina is a great place to invest and live

The town of Georgina is in high demand as far as real estate, making it an attractive option for buyers who are looking to grow their investment over time.

Currently, there are no major employers based out of Keswick, meaning many of its residents commute to nearby Newmarket or Toronto for work, but as this community continues to grow, there is no question in its potential for attracting future interest from businesses. Until then, the town’s proximity to major urban areas makes it easy for locals to get where they need to go, whether for work or leisure.

It’s also important to remember that Keswick is situated within Georgina, which ranks geographically as one of the largest municipalities in York Region, and provides several resources and avenues of support when it comes to its residents and their business interests.

Georgina’s community profile page highlights several attributes when it comes to investing and doing business in Georgina, including:

  • Small-town lifestyle with urban amenities

  • Some of the most affordable living costs in the region

  • Georgina’s Investment-Ready Program – designed to assist with the planning and development process for new businesses

  • Skilled labour pool

  • Ongoing development of Keswick’s Business Park – 500 acres of designated business park lands that will be used for industrial uses, including office space and 200 acres of zoned industrial land that has been acquired by Panattoni Development Company and is one of the largest available development opportunities within close distance to Toronto.

5. Keswick is on the millennial map for 2021

An study by Finder.ca on housing market trends in 2021 shows that more than half of millennials (a reported 64%) are planning to move and either buy or rent this year (20% more than the national average), with home size being one of the biggest drivers for prospective purchasers and renters in Ontario.

When it comes to getting more bang for your buck, it’s projected that many millennials will look beyond the city limits for their next home investment. Communities like Keswick are expected to grow in popularity with this demographic, as the area represents an opportunity for affordable entry into the housing market, the potential for future return on investment, and a community that affords its residents all the perks of small-town living with nearby access to urban amenities and resources.
